My Batam Trip 2008 With more pictures and updates!!

My 10 days batam trip to Harris Batam resort. I have just went to batam a few days ago and is time to update more pictures. Overall is a very relaxing and pleasant trip to Batam.

The boat ferry time is 9.20am but the boat gate closes at 9am, so it was quite rush as the time is brought forward.

A lot of Singaporean in this resort. Looks like the whole resort is built for Singaporeans. Everything in the resort is calculated in Sing dollars.

Everyday there will be a Buffet Breakfast with the normal stuff but the hotdog is terrible, other than that everything is about the same as other small buffet.

There is a big pool and spa corner.

Their shopping centre Nayoga Hill shopping centre, the food street. The price of food is slight/y lower to Singapore price.

Not much people as is weekdays.

The things they sell you can find in Singapore, there are about the same price. Some of the branded items like POLO is having good discount in Batam, I believe their facctory is at Indonesia.

Their Supermarket which looks actually like Giant.

Lots of crackers

A small dining room and living room in my room.

2 queen size bed here and oppsite the door is one king size bed.

The water there is a bit dirty, it looks orange when we open the tap.

Normal Bathtub, a bit dirty

Very nice swimming pool……..

More swimming pool

75 year old retiree loses S$400,000 with Lehman’s collapse!! Oh my gosh!

75 year old retiree loses S$400,000 with Lehman’s collapse!! Oh my gosh!

I cannot imagine that after working over 40 years until you retire, you have save a sum of money over 40 years. You have put the money into a bond which claims to be low risk and now all the money is gone, not even 1 cent you will be getting back. Very very bad, how many nights that you cannot fall asleep. Oh my gosh! My heart pain so much for them, hope the bank could return part of the money for them.

SINGAPORE: Some 10,000 people in Singapore paid out half a billion Singdollars for structured financial products linked to the now bankrupt Lehman Brothers.

75—year—old Mary Kwok is one of them. She lost S$400,000 — money meant for her and her husband’s retirement.

She said they had never made any high—risk investments until two years ago when she was collecting interest from her fixed deposit account. That was when a financial consultant introduced her to Lehman Brothers Minibonds, promising low risks.

The total issue size of the Lehman Brothers Minibonds was S$508 million. Out of this, S$375 million was sold to about 8,000 retail investors through nine distributors in Singapore.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said action will be taken if its investigations uncover misrepresentation from financial institutions to their clients when selling the Lehman Brothers Minibonds.

List of products with Melamine!!!! Shocked and check for it now!

Because my house got apply for SCV so I really like to watch Taiwan News. All their products have been tested for melamine for the few days and a lot of other non milk related products are with melamine. Now their check is as long as they are not more than 2.55PPM f melamine the product will be safe. That is also terrifying because you consume the melamine everyday that sounds danger also.

From the news, the products that may contain melamine but not more than 2.55PPM are

Cerals 3 in 1

Coffee 3 in 1

Vegetarian Meat

Yogurt

Instant Porridge

Soya Sauce

Soya Milk

Bean Curd

Ice Cream

All kind of different sauce.

One of the industrial people says that, melamine is a source of fake protein so can be added into a lotof different food to fake the protein level when tested.

Singapore Dutch lady brand of strawberry flavoured milk was found with melamine!!

Singapore Dutch lady brand of strawberry flavoured milk was found with melamine!!

This is a really bad news. China milk incident is checked by maybe this medicine is fed to cows and goats in China that cased this big stretch of incidents.

Can you imagine the food that is related in this incident?

I dont think is advised to buy china dairy products now.

In my mind now will be….

Beef, beef related items, goat related items, milk, yogurt, cheese, cream, milk related drinks, yogurt drink, chocolate, sweet, butter, burgers, ham, steak, pizza, any cheese related food, baked rice(my favorite), cakes, cheese cakes, bread with milk content, deserts and so many more.

Is like everything need milk, I wonder what will be the food left over to eat. This will takes a long time to recover as this food cycle is a really big one.

Importer of Dutch Lady brand milk destroying all milk made in China

SINGAPORE : The importer of Dutch Lady brand milk products - Friesland Foods Singapore - has recalled all its flavours of sterilised milk made in China.

This comes after Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority announced on Friday that its tests found traces of melamine in samples of Dutch Lady strawberry flavoured milk, and a Yili-brand yogurt bar.

Friesland Foods said it will be destroying all milk made in China, despite the fact that only the strawberry flavoured bottles have shown traces of melamine.

It added that only the sterilised bottled milk is made in China, whereas its other products come from Malaysia.

It said Dutch Lady products not produced in China are completely safe for consumption.

It is sending all China-made products for lab tests, and the results will be known on Monday, and added all China-made products should be off the shelves by Saturday.

Additionally, consumers of Dutch Lady products can call 6419-8466 to get further information. Consumers can call the hotline starting from September 22 to 26, from 9am till 5pm daily.

After it was announced on Friday that Singapore has suspended the sale and import of all Chinese dairy products, a supermarket chain here received over 100 requests for refunds on Saturday.

The chain carried more than 10 milk products made in China, and staff were busy removing them from the shelves.

Melamine is a toxic industrial chemical that caused kidney stones in many of the Chinese babies who drank formula laced with it. It has been blamed for four infant deaths and illnesses in over 6,000 babies. - CNA/ms

What is Melamine?

Melamine is normally used to make plastics but has been used to boost the apparent protein content of watered-down milk.

It was revealed this week that people in China have been deliberately diluting milk to cut costs, then adding melamine to make the product appear normal.

Look at the sick babies now in China

China promises all-out effort for sick babies

BEIJING : China’s cabinet ordered an all-out effort on Saturday to save babies poisoned by contaminated milk powder which has claimed the lives of four infants and sickened thousands more.

The State Council said sick babies should be given free medical treatment, ordered more checks on the dairy industry and vowed to punish those responsible for the scandal, the state Xinhua news agency said, quoting a statement.

The government has already announced the arrest of 18 people for their roles in the contamination of milk with the industrial chemical melamine.

Four babies have died and more than 6,000 are ill after drinking tainted infant formula, and the government said this week that regular milk, yoghurt and ice-cream were also affected.

The cabinet statement said the companies responsible would be made to foot the bill for treating babies who developed kidney problems after drinking the tainted milk.

“Local authorities should rectify the dairy industry so as to bring a fundamental change to the dairy market and products,” it said.

Melamine is normally used to make plastics but has been used to boost the apparent protein content of watered-down milk.

It was revealed this week that people in China have been deliberately diluting milk to cut costs, then adding melamine to make the product appear normal.

The problem came to light last week in China’s state-controlled media, but New Zealand Saturday said its embassy in Beijing had known of the problem since mid-August.

New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra told an embassy official on August 14 that its Chinese partner Sanlu appeared to have received contaminated milk and that there were reports of a small number of sick children, it said.

The embassy advised Fonterra that the Chinese central government would normally be informed by local authorities.

But some Chinese press reports said the scam had been going on for years, with China’s chaotic and corrupt food safety system unable either to detect or prevent it.

President Hu Jintao criticised local officials for lapses in public safety at a Communist Party meeting on Friday, saying there were “painful lessons” to be drawn from a spate of health scares and industrial accidents.

“There have been some serious work and food safety accidents this year in certain places which have caused major harm to life and to the well-being of the masses,” the People’s Daily, the Communist Party mouthpiece, quoted Hu as saying.

“These incidents show that some officials have lost a sense of principles, of the public interest, of responsibilities, of attention to (people’s) suffering.”

China has a history of cover-ups involving health and safety scandals.

In one of the worst cases, China initially tried to deny the existence of the 2003 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, and only owned up after it spilled over into other countries.

Hu has repeatedly said the fight against official corruption is a priority in China, where the lack of a free press or an independent judiciary has allowed graft to flourish. - AFP/ms

SIngapore news about Dutch lady

SINGAPORE — The Agri—Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has suspended the import and sale of all milk and dairy products from China with immediate effect, after tests found melamine contamination in two brands of China—made milk products.

Two days ago, AVA issued an advisory about the recall of Yili brand “Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection” based on Hong Kong’s findings of melamine contamination in such products.

Subsequently, AVA took samples of the product for testing and found two samples to be contaminated with melamine. All stocks of the affected product have been removed from market shelves since 17 September and will be destroyed, said an AVA statement on Friday.

“Our tests also found that the “Dutch Lady” brand of strawberry flavoured milk manufactured in China to be contaminated with melamine. These products have also been recalled and will be destroyed. Other “Dutch Lady” brand milk products which are not manufactured in China are unaffected,” said the statement.

“As a precautionary measure, AVA is also suspending the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China with immediate effect,” added the statement.

Consumers who have bought Yili brand “Choice Dairy Fruit Bar Yogurt Flavoured Ice Confection” and “Dutch Lady” brand of strawberry flavoured milk (manufactured in China) are advised not to consume them.

AVA said retailers and importers have also been instructed to recall these products and these products will be withheld from sale until they have cleared the necessary tests.

AVA has also instructed local food manufacturers to stop the use of milk and milk products from China as ingredients until the completion of its investigations. Consignments which have just arrived or are on the way will also be withheld from sale.

As regards infant formula, AVA reassures the public that there is no such import from China. Infant formulas sold in Singapore are safe for consumption, it said.

Town in shock over girl’s kidnap-cum-murder! ‘A girl who had it all’

JOHOR BARU: A 16-year-old schoolgirl who was kidnapped last Friday was found murdered with her partially-burnt body dumped in some bushes.

Police found the semi-decomposed body of Lai Ying Xin (pic) at 1.40am yesterday in Taman Putri, Kulai.

It is learnt that she might have been kidnapped by people known to her and police were pursuing several leads, including that one of the suspects may have been the victim’s ex-boyfriend.

Johor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said police believe Ying Xin had been murdered even before the kidnappers demanded ransom.

He said Ying Xin, the third of four siblings, was kidnapped outside a hypermarket after 9pm on Friday where she had been working as a part-time sales girl.

“The victim’s mother lodged a police report the following morning when the kidnappers called at 6.20am and demanded a ransom,” SAC Tun Hisan told a press conference yesterday at the state police headquarters.

Ying Xin’s father owns a car repair workshop while her mother is a housewife.

Police have ruled out the involvement of Ah Long.

It is learnt that the kidnappers demanded RM60,000 but family members only managed to raise RM30,000, which was dropped off at an undisclosed location at about 3am on Monday.

Police detained seven suspects in Kulai on Monday but released three of them after questioning.

The remaining four, aged between 16 and 22 years, are odd-job workers and have been remanded until Sept 21 to assist investigations.

Police recovered two-thirds of the ransom money and a silver Perodua Kembara.

SAC Tun Hisan said after questioning the suspects, police were able to locate the victim’s body, which was then sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital mortuary.

The autopsy report revealed that the victim had been strangled before her body was set on fire. It also found that she had not been raped.

Her family members arrived at the mortuary at 3.30pm to identify the body.

The five people left about 30 minutes later.

Friends horrified to hear of Ying Xin’s death

KULAI: Schoolmates of kidnap victim Lai Ying Xin, were horrified to hear of her death.

She was a bright student who had scored 7As in her PMR last year.

Ying Xin’s pretty face also made her a popular student at SMK Sultan Ibrahim.

One of her best friends, student Lee Sher Li, 16, said she spoke or SMSed Ying Xin daily and was surprised when she could not contact her from Saturday.

“I tried calling her handphone, but was confused, worried and anxious when I could not get through to her,” she said when met outside her school yesterday afternoon.

“Later on, I heard that she had been kidnapped. I am shocked over her murder.”

Sher Li described Ying Xin as a “really good girl” who was not in any sort of trouble and was always generous with her friends.

“She was a very good student and even treated us to KFC meals and movies once in a while,” she said.

She added that Ying Xin often went for tuition with her and would even come over to her home once in a while to complete their homework together.

Another classmate Tham Yi Xin, 16, said she heard that Ying Xin had been kidnapped but was horrified to hear of her murder.

“I can’t believe it,” she said.

A teacher who declined to be identified said they were shocked to learn the news.

She was a good student who was also active in co-curricular activities, said the teacher.

Town in shock over girl's kidnap-cum-murder KULAI JAYA: The sleepy neighbourhood of Taman Putri here was reeling from shock yesterday following the discovery of the partially- charred body of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in a clearing.

Residents reacted in horror when it was learnt that the victim, Lai Ying Xin, was kidnapped on Thursday and was believed to have been murdered even before the ransom of RM60,000 was paid.

Police were led to the body yesterday about 1am by four suspects, between the ages of 16 and 22. One of the suspects is believed to have been the victim’s boyfriend.

Marked bills amounting to RM20,000, believed to be part of the ransom, were also found on the suspects.

Police believe the suspects went ahead and demanded the ransom even after the victim was murdered and her body burnt. She is believed to have been murdered within 24 hours of the abduction.

She is believed to have been murdered elsewhere before her body was dumped in Taman Putri.

Lai, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kulai, who also worked part-time in a hypermarket, is believed to have been kidnapped while she was on her way home.

Police said she was bundled into a Perodua Kembara by the suspects. Police had also seized the vehicle from one of the suspects currently in custody.

State police deputy chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said Lai was probably killed as she knew one of the kidnappers.

“The kidnappers were afraid the victim would point them out once she was released after the ransom was paid,” said Tun Hisan.

He said the victim’s mother had received a call demanding a ransom on Friday evening.

“Lai usually returned home by 9pm but when there was no sign of her on Thursday night, the family lodged a missing person’s report,” he said.

After negotiations, the sum of RM60,000 was agreed upon as the ransom. The money, which was in a sports bag, was dropped off at secluded spot in a housing area in Kulai at 3am on Monday.

Police made a breakthrough in the investigations on Monday evening, which led them to the arrest of a 16-year-old school dropout and two men in their 20s who were seen driving in the area in a Perodua Kembara.

Part of the ransom money was found on the suspects.

In follow-up operations, police picked up another 16-year-old in Taman Putri.

All four suspects have been remanded until Sept 21 to facilitate investigations. They had led police to a secluded road in Taman Putri, where the body was found.

The body was sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem.

‘A girl who had it all’

JOHOR BARU: Murder victim Lai Ying Xin was described as “not very studious” but “who did well in her examinations”. The description came from one of Lai’s classmates who said the victim also paid a lot of attention to her looks and dressing.

“She was the one who had the latest hair style and knew the latest album,” said her classmate, who did not want to be named.

“She was pretty, kind, smart and down-to-earth. She was not like one of those who had it all but was snobbish.”

According to her, Lai was also known as “Yinx”.

“Yinx came from a well-to-do-family. She did not need the part-time job. But I think she took it since she enjoyed shopping,” said the student, adding that Yinx had a sister and brother.

Another student claimed Yinx’s family was keeping the matter hushed up as they did not want her frail grandmother to know what had happened.

“Yinx was close to her. They are afraid that she will not be able to take the news that Yinx was brutally murdered.”

11 effective ways to drive traffic for your blog!!!

Filed Under (Special) by nicson on 15-09-2008

11 effective ways to drive traffic for your blog!!!

There are thousands of
blogs
opened per day and most of them are just crap and some are made and built seriously. But every blog seems to face problems in the start, on getting traffic to the new resource of the web.

Here are a few ways by which you can drive traffic to your new blog -

1. Linking others - One of the ways to send trackbacks by linking to other
blogs
and then getting traffic from their
blogs
. This would at least attract the blogger who
Traffic jam blog is linked to, and also you might be linked by them in future if they are the same level
bloggers
. This not only helps in traffic, but blogger relationship also increases by this way.

2. Forum participation - Participation in webmaster and blogging forums is one of the best ways to get free traffic to your website. In forums, you are normally allowed to place links in signature. And this is a good way to attract
visitors
to your blog by having some attractive titles etc. Also in some forums like
Digitalpoint forums, v7n forums, bloggeries forums etc. you can place your blog feed, and near your username, your recent blog post title is shown linked to the post. This drives in good traffic.

3. Run a blog
contest
-
Blog contests(like the one i am running right now) are common when you earn some good revenue from the blog and you think of some give back to your
visitors
, but blog contests are a must to boost your blog traffic at its start-off point. A kick-off

contest
has been
a good
visitor driving technique for many
bloggers
and this trick still works a lot. Again, contests can be of many ways, like posting in their blog about it, or reviewing

contest
, or RSS subscribing
contest
. Not just starting a
contest
, but
promoting a blog contest adds traffic in bonus.

4. Write attractive titles - Writing attractive titles for your blog posts is another good way to get some good traffic. And maintaining good titles etc. from the start gives your
visitors

a good
impression.

5. Comment on other
blogs
-
Commenting on other
blogs
of the same niche of yours, and big and high traffic
blogs
might bring in you some traffic and more traffic might flow in if your comment is controversial, and something like questioning the blogger etc.

Negative comments in other
blogs
will get some traffic to your blog as people often think about the commenter and think to give a visit to the their blog.

6. Guest blogging - There are a lot of
blogs
in the blogosphere which accepts guest posts from
bloggers
, and this is

a good
way to have a kick start to your blog.
Blogs
like
Problogger, John chow, john cow, tyler cruz etc. are the best places which would send you bulk load of traffic for a single guest post there.

7. Be regular - Don’t just make your visitors sad by not updating your blog regularly when its still now. Things may be different later but in the early stages, frequent updates with new posts regularly is a must. This will get you good amount of return traffic.
Set the posting rate later but dont go slow in the start.

8. Social networking - This has lately been one of the good ways to get some traffic. Have profiles in Myspace, Facebook, Orkut, Twitter etc. then be sure to leave your blog URL in each of them in your profile. That doesn’t end your job, you have to participate in discussions in those networking sites, and topics related to your niche, making your impact in the blogosphere.

9. Social bookmarking and feed maintenance - Submit your website to each of the big social bookmarking websites, and also have
a good
feed manager for your blog, like
feedburner. Having people subscribed to your blog can get return traffic to your blog through feeds, making your new content reached the readers as and when you post.

10. Contact fellow
bloggers
-
Make some network with fellow
bloggers
and make them know about your new blog and most of them would forward to others or mention about your

blogs
in their
blogs
. Exchanging blogrolls, or recommendations about each others might create small buzz aorund.

11. Write, write and write - Be writing stuff that might interest people, but make sure that it is of some good quality. As poor quality writing might get you low quality traffic. People reach your blog to read something new, and if your new blog has nothing new, then your blog will never get established and will always be new!

Follow all the steps above and watch the traffic flow in like -
