The No 1 guide and cost of starting your small business!

Filed Under (Money ways) by nicson on 31-08-2008

All about starting up your own business.

Do you ever think that you will be starting up any business of your own?

What do you think you will be selling?

I have tried doing small business in SIngapore when I am 19 years old so I know what will be the 101 things that you need to know when you are starting one business.

Firstly you need to know what kind of items you need to sell and where is the source of the products. Is it approved from SIngapore regulations.

For example,

At that time, we got our goods from local suppliers(gifts) and sells in offices and bazaars.

Item: Big Range of cute items(similar to Mini toons items)

Try to find a very unique product with low cost to start with but a product with purpose. Gifts will sell more slowly unless you are a shop in shopping centers.

The rate of rental for offices, canteen places, hospitals and bazaars.

Ranging from $30 to $100 per day for per table.

If you are selling small items 2 tables should be enough, do not sell regular items as there are plenty of vendors selling at the offices before you do.

Depending on the items you sell strictly, normally their profits will be 2 times or more depending on their cost and competition. More competition means that you need to sell at a lower profit.

Sales: Average is $100 to $1000 per day for my experience and the place you sell.

If you dont have a vehicle, remember that transport service is $50 - $100 per trip depending on the amount of items you need to bring to the place. Normally renting of place like this offices will be around 1 week.

One of my experience.

Sales=$3500 per week($500 daily)

Profit=($3500/3)x2

=$2333.34

(minus)Rental=$1400

(minus)Transport=$350

Total Profit and Loss=$583.34

This profit is base on one of the fairs that I have tried doing last time, the cost didn’t include the spoilt goods and the left over goods in the event of purchasing. Don’t forget that not every location you will have profit, sometimes it is a loss.

Bargaining is common in places like this as office ladies like to bargain a lot.

So if you want to start a business, please find a strong sell-able product before you start.

I will also continue to tell you more about doing business in SIngapore. Example pushcart and etc.

Rental are the lowest in places that I mention in this post, of course human flow is not perfect and only in the lunch time.

Places that I remember

per table is normally 1m by 1m, at certain location you have to take your own tables, no tables provided

Seagate-$50 per table

Alexandra Technopark-$70 per table

NUH-$50 per table ( organize by event company, monthly)

SGH-$50 per table (organize by SGH welfare offices, monthly)

NUS-$50 per table (organize by student, monthly at different location in NUS)

NTU-$50 per table (organize by student, monthly at different halls of NTU)

Offices in Eunos - $50 per table (organize by event companies)

*PS - Also note that the sales is always good on the first time. The crowd will be the same for the location as this is the people who is working there.

You can e-mail me any questions or comments if you need to know about any more details.

Stomper Went Comex to get deal but got challenged to fight!

Filed Under (Singapore News) by nicson on 30-08-2008

I feel that this incident is quite serious when teenagers are so implusive nowadays. Anger management is so low even staring and looking is a problem. So many people at Comex taking pictures are they going to bit everyone up?

Source from Stomp:

THIS IS A PHOTO ILLUSTRATION.
A STOMPer who went bargain-hunting at the COMEX show on Aug 29 met with trouble instead, as he claims he was challenged to a fight by a flyer distributor, after the latter accused him of filming him.

Gabriel told STOMP that as much as he wants to continue looking for good deals at the show, he is afraid to go back there for fear of his own safety.

He recounted:

“I am writing to express a very serious and appalling incident that happened at Comex earlier today (Aug 29).

“I visited Comex at Suntec with a group of my friends today hoping to find a good deal on digital cameras and laptops. After looking around, my friends and I decided to leave and return the next day as it was already closing time.

“While leaving the place, my friend jokingly took a video of myself as we were walking away from the show and we were on the fourth floor when we walked past a group of around eight flyer distributors.

“All of a sudden we were questioned by a flyer distributor wearing a Canon Digital Ixus red tee-shirt. He approached my friend, demanding to know why  we took a video of them. My friend showed him the video and told him that the video did not include any Canon flyer distributors.

“I had felt that it was very strange that my friend was questioned because firstly, there was no sign saying that no camera or video taking was permitted in the premises.

“Secondly there was no infringement of any intellectual property involved as the flyer distributors were not carrying any cameras or Canon products.

“Lastly Comex is a public event where photographers usually take pictures of the people attending the event.

“So I decided to turn around and ask him wh yphoto taking wasn’t allowed.

“The Canon flyer distributor replied in a very hostile manner, ‘I DON’T LIKE YOU TO TAKE PHOTO OF MY FRIEND!’.

“I was stunned and very taken aback by his reply as this is not the way to speak to a customer and I had never expected such a response.

“I clarified with him instead if he meant that his friend didn’t like it or he didn’t like it.

“He replied in a very aggressive manner that he didn’t like it; obviously this issue has nothing to do with his friend! He then questioned me back, ‘I don’t like can or not!’.

“At this point in time I did not want to create a scene and I asked him to step aside so that I could talk to him.

“Instead of coming to a corner with me, he asked me to follow him to the carpark. I felt that something was not right and refused; to which he replied that he needed to put back his things and left saying that he’ll be back.

“Sensing that something was amiss, I decided to walk over to the Canon booth to speak to a manager to lodge an official complaint.

“As it turned out, while I was inside Comex waiting for the manager to come over, my friend who was not allowed to enter the convention hall as it was already past 9.30pm, spotted 8 Canon flyer distributors all wearing the same shirts coming out of the hall together, obviously looking for me.

“It turned out that my decision to bring this matter up to higher authorities had actually saved my life!

“After awhile, the person-in-charge, Mr Tan and another person came over and I related the whole incident to them but even then, they did not take my issue seriously claiming that the flyer distributors were just young kids who need to grow up and just need some talking to.

“Being young is no excuse to be above the law and physically threaten others.

“Wearing a Canon uniform, a person is representative of his company and the actions or decisions that he takes be it good or bad, reflects on the company itself.

“While I’m certain that Canon Singapore are a very reputable and prestigious company, I am puzzled as to why would they resort to hiring such staff.

“My horrible experience had extended from the flyer distributors up to the person in-charge who had taken a very light view of a very serious incident which could have ended me in hospital keeping in mind that the flyer distributor involved is nearly twice my size!

“I went to Comex happily looking for a good and cheap deal but I ended up with a very bad taste of the event.

“Singapore is a very safe country where we are protected by a world class police force and thus we tend to live with a false sense of security. If we allow such bullies to go unnoticed, it will only be a matter of time that somebody innocent gets unnecessarily seriously injured. Gangsterism is a public nuisance far worse than littering and should not be allowed to exist!

“I was very interested in purchasing a new digital camera but I am now afraid for my own security should I return to Comex.

“I hope that through public awareness of this event, Canon would finally take action and investigate into this matter at the soonest available opportunity. ”

STOMP has contacted Canon Singapore for a comment. Watch this space for updates.

Table Tennis Team dispute is over!!!

Filed Under (Singapore News) by nicson on 30-08-2008

After all the “wind wind rain rain” the dispute is over. Very happy for them, hope that they can win another medal for us in 2012 in London.

Channel NewsAsia - Saturday, August 30

SINGAPORE: The controversy surrounding the Singapore Table Tennis Association has been called to a close by the Ministry for Community Development, Youth and Sports.

In a special media conference on Friday evening, it announced that team manager Antony Lee will continue for another three months, to finish up his Olympics reports. He will then move to the Singapore National Olympic Council in November.

The association will also have two separate head coaches, one each for the women’s and men’s teams.

President of the Singapore Table Tennis Association, Lee Bee Wah, apologised for causing grievances and stress. With that, the dust has settled over a week—long saga that mired Singapore’s silver medal win at the Olympic Games.

Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said the issue was caused by misunderstandings and ties have been mended.

He added that the local sports scene, especially the Singapore Table Tennis Association, has emerged stronger from the incident.

He said the strong public reactions such as those online, showed how sports play an important role in unifying Singaporeans and that the sports scene here has come of age.

Dr Balakrishnan said: “Can I promise there will never be a problem? I can’t make such promises. What is more important is the trust and discipline is in place in the team to overcome these problems, get on with the mission, do their best and hopefully their best is good enough to win medals for us.”

When asked for their reactions, the table tennis team members stood up in solidarity and said they were all very satisfied with the discussions and decisions.

Other officials also called for Singaporeans’ continued support, especially for the association’s president Lee Bee Wah.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Teo Ser Luck, said: “For Ms Lee to come in and carry on this work, she will need time. She is only a month—plus old.

“And I believe that she will need the time in order to know what’s happening and to gain that knowledge in order to run STTA and bring it to greater heights.”

Ng Ser Miang, vice—president, Singapore National Olympic Council, said: “Its time for the athletes to reflect on the values, become true Olympians and go back to our celebrations.”

The table tennis team will meet their fans on Saturday at a special autograph session in Ang Mo Kio. — CNA/vm

What happen to the long queue outside donut factory?

Filed Under (Food, My life) by nicson on 30-08-2008

What happen to the long queue outside donut factory?

There is usually a 1/2 hour queue outside donut factory for the past year. My girlfriend will always called me to queue up for the donuts when the start of donut craze but now she will pull me away from any donut shop. She says that she don’t have any appetite when looking at the donuts now. Maybe too many shops now all around singapore has bring down the sales for the donut. This looks very similar to bubble tea shop. So hope that the donuts shops can maintein the standard and produce good donuts to prevent the sales from going downhill. Do you still buy donuts when you see a donut shop?

Do your neighbours cares about how many shoes you have outside your house?

Do your neighbour cares about how many shoes you have outside your house?

I also have a lot of shoes outside my house and don’t bother to keep them inside the house. Looks like there are 30 pairs outside now but do you think your neighbour minds about that?

I just visited the stomp website and realised that people really mind. Imagine your neighbour takes pictures of your corridor for the amount of shoes you have and post into stomp? Shocked?

Hope my neighbour dont do that to me, I can clear some if they want to.

Honestly looks like only 2-3 people as looks like the same sizes.

How come so many tenants at this Jurong West flat?

STOMPer HeartnSoul wonders why this brand new Jurong West flat is occupied by so many tenants, and is amazed by how the people involved did not bother to hide that fact.

In the STOMPer’s email to STOMP yesterday (Aug 28), the STOMPer wrote:

“Is this another case of Balestier apartment overcrowded by foreign workers?

“Imagine this is just a new ground floor unit at Blk 986B Jurong West St 93 which is merely less than a year of occupation.

“Look at that huge shelf displaying numerous working boots in an outright fashion and considering this unit is right at the ground floor lift lobby?”

Table Tennis CEO has forced to resigned from STTA

Filed Under (Singapore News) by nicson on 29-08-2008

After the many blows for the Table Tennis team. The CEO of table tennis team has been fored to resign after all the incident. I think that should be the better choice if the whole team if they really have a lot of communication problems.

Source from Yahoo!

SINGAPORE : A resolution is expected to be reached soon over the controversial decision by the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) to end its team manager’s services.

While extensive meetings have been held over the past few days between STTA and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports to resolve the issue, the controversy has got the online community abuzz.

There was even an online petition calling for the president of STTA to step down. It has so far collected about 500 signatures. It was emailed to the media on Thursday afternoon by a representative who asked to remain anonymous.

When contacted, the representative said in an email that he is a 40—year—old self—employed businessman who has been following the progress of table tennis since Jing Junhong represented Singapore in the Games.

He said he does not endorse the personal attacks put up by online users who have signed the petition, which was started on August 26 after many forum members called for it.

When asked what he hopes to get out of the petition, he said: “We hope that a more suitable candidate can be put in place to lead our charge towards a gold medal in 2012. We do not think Ms Lee Bee Wah is the person to do the job.”

He added: “It is regrettable that our petition has been perceived as an attempt to create trouble and flame the fire. Whatever the outcome of the petition may be, we have spoken our mind and hope that something good will come out from this whole episode.”

When contacted, the STTA and its president, Ms Lee Bee Wah, declined comment.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, would only say that his ministry “is in the process of resolving the issue” and “meetings have been held between all parties involved”.

A search online saw the issue being discussed in many Internet forums, including those on the Young People’s Action Party website and www.channelnewsasia.com.

One Internet user even started a straw poll on whether the STTA president should resign. The poll results showed that 83 per cent of users said “yes” and 16 per cent said “no”.

Channel NewsAsia said that when the issue reached its peak at the beginning of the week, its Internet forum saw an average of 500 posts per day. Now, things have quietened down and the issue saw less than 10 posts each day.

The controversy started when table tennis player Gao Ning had to play without a coach on the sidelines during the Olympic Games as his assigned coach had been held up at an earlier match which overran.

The STTA president had expressed unhappiness over this and said action would be taken after the Olympic Games. — CNA/ls
